The Big Move

You may have come across me referring to the Big Move in places on our website. Here’s a quick post explaining what I mean by that.

Tymikka and I started Mae’s Rabbitry when we were living together and able to share the tasks between us. Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances we had to break lease and find new houses living apart. It was a VERY stressful time, and getting a whole bunch of rabbits on new leases was difficult. So we reduced to pets (Tymikka kept Nuke, and I contemplated keeping Peanut or London but found them good homes instead). Now I’m trying to get permission for Charlie and Shady (but my land lords haven’t answered emails in weeks, despite my pestering them).

If we can both get permission for rabbits, maybe in the future we’ll breed. I plan on breeding Charlie to Nuke, because I think they’d make some excellent offspring with great personalities, size and body shape, as well as some gorgeous colours. The breeders we purchased Charlie from were going to keep her as their own breeding stock, so they’ll be happy to know she’s had some offspring and curious to see the results. There’s a chance she carries a hidden vienna gene, as does Nuke. If just one does, we may have some vienna markings. If both do, we may have some blue-eyed whites. We also have dilute genes to work with. Which means we might get some frosties!

I’m taking the break between rabbits to update the website and finally catch up on all the buns we’ve had. I’m keeping up to date with Facebook notifications and our Rabbits of Mae Facebook group. I’m still watching the Instagram page. We also still have our last three boys from Emmy’s litter that no one seems interested in (lucky we are having a break from breeding, there seems to be a slow point in the rabbit industry at the moment). In all ways, we are still functioning as a rabbitry. I’ll still be taking in animals in need (I currently have a guinea pig to find a home), we just aren’t breeding actively for a couple of months at least. As much as I’d like to.

I already miss the bunnies, the genetics, the love and the cuddles. But it’s time to focus on the pets for a while, train Charlie to be a trick rabbit. If you need advice, we are here. If you want to share pictures of buns purchased off us (or just buns in general), we are still here. So stay in touch, and I can’t wait for the day we say we are back in business again!
