Our Returns Policy
In light of recent events, I just want to say that we offer a FULL REFUND including deposits to any of our rabbits if you find your circumstances change and you can no longer afford them.
We recently gave away two of our boys, Harley and Lava, to a young woman. I expressed all the usual concerns; that they needed this food and slow transitions, that we fed them oaten hay primarily, that they’d been hand fed and that in this case Lava had a previous medical condition (he’d broken his leg as a baby but was now all mended).
It was a week or two after that I was flicking through gumtree and saw Harley’s cute little face on an ad. I quickly clicked for more info, and sure enough it was our two boys up for sale again, for slightly more than they’d been bought for (but not enough to make any form of profit, so I’m not sure what their reasons were behind rehoming).
I found the new owner’s contact details and sent them a message to see how the boys were doing and asked if they were settling into their new home. The owner came back “good, they’re good”. I got to talking about a rabbit that had recently come back to us after it not working out in their new home, saying that was the reason behind why I was checking up on everyone to see how it was all going. The owners asked if the other buyer had received a refund, to which I answered yes (the truth). Yet there was no more mention of it after that, she just asked for a link to our Facebook group (that she’d never joined).
So I then proceeded to create a fake account and enquire into the boys for sale. I thought that if she was finding them good homes and relaying all the important information, then the boys should be okay. Only when I asked her questions regarding what they ate, acting as if I needed to prepare myself before buying them, she gave me all the wrong info. Instead of the Vetafarm pellets they’d been brought up on, she’d been feeding them a diet from Coles (not appropriate for any rabbits, let alone rabbits that were hand-raised). She hadn’t even had them for a long enough time to have transitioned them onto this diet, which was a concern in itself, even if the diet had been sufficient.
We decided then that it was necessary that we get our babies back. Not once had she mentioned their health issues and needs, and didn’t pass on any information to my fake buyer’s account. We went and got our boys, and she never recognised us.
There were even more surprises in store for us. They were a little timid when we returned home, hopefully as a result of the drive and not because of any poor handling they’d suffered. The new owners also mentioned that they had no food to give us or show us, as they’d just ran out that day. What were they going to feed the buns during the night? What if we hadn’t come to pick them up within hours of seeing them up for sale?
There was also NO hay, and despite the risk of them not being fed, the boys came back super fat. They had WAY too much protein and not enough fibre in their diet. They also seemed parched and starving, jumping on food and water as soon as we put it in their run.
I feel horribly responsible for giving them to such a home, and only wish that they’d admitted so being unprepared for the boys and returned them to us willingly. We understand that things don’t always go to plan, and that sometimes rabbits can be a bigger responsibility than people first think.
So, if you have ANY rabbits of ours that you feel the need to rehome, please let us know first. We will be able to help you should you wish to keep the rabbit until we find it a new owner, or we can take the rabbit back if you need it rehomed urgently. Even if you wish to try and make a profit by selling our rabbits on to the next owner for more than you paid, still try and let us know. And at the very least include all the rabbits details. These two rabbits could have died from false information and poor nutrition. We are incredibly lucky to have them back.
And on a last note, Harley and Lava are (as of when I wrote this) back up for sale now that their settled back into our routine. Check out our available bunnies to see if they’re still available.
